You baby your engine in so many ways because you know that an engine is one of the most expensive parts on your vehicle to replace. But are you taking care of your engine by ensuring that your timing belt is in good working condition. If you’re not, you should.

The timing belt is a part that ensures that the camshaft and crankshafts are opening and closing the pistons and valves at the correct intervals. Without this timing element working properly, your engine can’t run. It’s even possible that if the timing belt brakes with the pistons and valves are opening and closing that your engine could be damaged. Ouch, that’s a big price tag.

If you’re interested in learning more ways that you can protect your engine, or if you’re interested in having your timing belt checked out, come to our service center Steete-Ponte Ford in Yorkville, NY. We’ll be happy to take a look at your vehicle and find all of the ways that you can optimize the longevity of your timing belt and engine.

Whether on a country road or a city street, having an emergency roadside kit in your vehicle is essential. A few items could keep you comfortable and safe until help arrives.

  • Reflective triangles or flares will help alert oncoming cars. If you are not comfortable with road flares, LED flares are available now. It is a good idea to learn how to light a flare, just in case. Practice in a safe, dry location.
  • Keep a first aid in the car. It should contain some sterile gauze, alcohol wipes, gloves, some antibacterial ointment, and bandages.
  • Tire inflators, such as fix-a-flat, can revive a low tire enough to get to a mechanic. The canister attaches to the valve stem of the tire and sprays a solution inside. It is not a permanent fix, but it can get you to safety.

Our service department at Steet-Ponte Ford in Yorkville can help get your car ready for the road. Tire and engine maintenance is one small way to prevent some roadside emergencies.
