The Ford Escape Vs the Competition

The Ford Escape is a Stylish and Versatile Small SUV that Offers More than Competing Models

With seating for five people in two rows and a style that turns heads everywhere it goes, it's easy to see why drivers in the greater Utica area have gravitated toward the Ford Escape for more than two decades. At Steet-Ponte Ford in Yorkville, NY, where our inventory of new Ford models surpasses that of other dealerships in the area, the Ford Escape is a longtime favorite of our customers, and we're excited to help you get to know it better, today.

One way in which we help local drivers in Rome get acquainted with and select the ideal Ford for their needs is with in-depth research and side-by-side comparisons. Here, we've pit our popular Ford Escape SUV against three top competitors from other brands. Read on to learn more and to discover some of the ways in which our model comes out ahead of the competition.

The Ford Escape vs. the Subaru Forester, the Hyundai Tucson, and the Jeep Cherokee

Each of the SUVs compared here come with two rows of seating, accommodations for up to five people, four doors, and a liftgate-accessible rear cargo hold. But the number of similarities decreases the more you compare them, with the legendary Ford brand coming out on top in several areas. Our team can tell you more and set you up for a test drive near your home in New Hartford or Whitesboro.

Ford Escape vs. Subaru Forester

  • Hybrid options. Drivers who choose the Ford Escape have a choice. They can get their SUV with a gas-powered engine, a traditional hybrid engine, or a plug-in hybrid alternative. Efficient and cutting-edge, these hybrid options add a lot to your commute. But you won't get this option with the Subaru Forester, which has no hybrid options.
  • Passenger comfort. When you have taller backseat passengers, they'll enjoy more room to stretch out in with the Ford Escape than the Subaru Forester, thanks to extra legroom in the backseat of our SUV.
  • Customization options. In addition to having more powertrains to choose from, the Ford Escape also has more customization options than the Subaru Forester in general does. For example, the Ford Escape is available in your pick of either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. But the Forester only comes with standard all-wheel drive, and no other choices available.

Ford Escape vs. Hyundai Tucson

  • Efficiency and range. While both SUVs are available with gas, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid engines, the Ford Escape surpasses in efficiency and range. For example, the Escape averages 30 mpg combined for its base gas engine, compared to 28 mpg combined for the Hyundai Tucson. Additionally, when you opt for the plug-in hybrid, you'll get up to 37 miles of electric driving with the Escape, and just 33 miles with the Tucson.
  • Power and performance. Not only does the Ford Escape outshine the Hyundai Tucson in efficiency, but it also does better in terms of performance. While the entry-level Tuson has just 178 pound-feet of torque, the Ford Escape lineup starts with 199 pound-feet of torque.
  • Tech features. The Ford Escape also comes with more standard tech amenities than the Hyundai Tucson, such as standard in-vehicle Wi-Fi, which is not a standard feature for the Tucson.

Ford Escape vs. Jeep Cherokee

  • Alternative engine options. As with the comparison to the Subaru Forester above, the Jeep Cherokee also pales in comparison to the Ford Escape and its various hybrid alternative engines. There are no hybrid engines available for the Jeep brand SUV.
  • Cargo space. Carry more of what's important to you with the Ford Escape, which has a larger cargo hold than the Jeep Cherokee. The Escape cargo area holds up to 37.5 cubic feet, while the Jeep Cherokee tops out at just 25 cubic feet.
  • Passenger comfort. While similar in height and width, the Ford Escape offers more lengthwise internal space, with extra legroom in both the front and the backseats compared to the Jeep Cherokee.
